How often do you clean or freshen the mattresses on your beds? Some do it only when necessary, others may turn it and clean it during certain seasons. It’s suggested mattresses be cleaned about once a month. There are a variety of oils that work well. Some kill bacteria and others are said to kill dust mites. Here are two recipes for making your own cleaners using essential oils and all natural ingredients. Choose a spray bottle or powder form to deodorize your bed, be rid of dust mites and get a better night’s sleep.
Dry Powder Mattress Cleaner
Making a dry formula to clean the mattresses on your beds is quick and easy. Here is what you need to make enough for a queen size mattress.
Directions
Add the baking soda and essential oil to the container. Put the lid on it and shake it to distribute the oils throughout the soda. After removing the sheets, use a sifter to sift the mixture across the mattress. If you use a bottle with a shaker top it would work as well. Just make sure there is a fine coating of the soda and oil mixture across the top of the mattress. Let it set for an hour at least. It can produce even better results by leaving it on longer, but it should sit for at least an hour. After at least an hour, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the soda mixture from the bed.
Moist Mattress Refresher
If you prefer to use a water-based recipe for your mattress, here is what you will need:
Directions
Combine all the ingredients from the list in a spray bottle. Remove the sheets from the mattress and spray the solution on the top of the mattress. Give it plenty of time to dry before putting sheets back on the bed. The solution can be stored in a cool dark place for as long as 6 months.
