Fever Reducer Using Essential Oil Blends

Eucalyptus contains anti-inflammatory properties and it is a vasodilator which means it helps blood vessels expand to improve overall circulation. This can be beneficial when trying to reduce a fever. Eucalyptus EO has been called the “fever oil” for its ability to reduce fevers. Here are three ways to use eucalyptus oil along with other oils to help reduce a fever.

To make a body compress: Mix 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil in two cups of tepid water. Place washcloths in the water until they are wet, then wrap the wet cloths around legs and arms and then cover them with a dry towel.

To make a fever rub:  Combine one teaspoon of a carrier oil (jojoba or almond oil works well) and rub it into the back of the neck, bottoms of the feet, and the temples. Repeat every 15 to 20 minutes until the fever subsides. For children use only one drop of eucalyptus oil in one teaspoon of a carrier oil. Apply the blend only on the bottoms of their feet.

To make a forehead compress: Blend a drop of eucalyptus EO and three drops of lavender EO in a cup of cold water. Soak a small towel or washcloth in the liquid and then apply it to the forehead. Eucalyptus oil can help break the fever while lavender oil has a calming and relaxing effect.
